The wizard channels their arcane mastery to imbue an object or a designated point in space with a latent spell. This spell lies dormant, springing to life when specific conditions, as conceived by the wizard, are met. Notably, a trap forged from the Spell Trap spell possesses sensory capabilities: it can see, hear, and even smell.

The complexity of the trigger mechanism is dictated by the wizard's intellectual acumen. The number of potential triggers and conditions it can accommodate is directly proportional to the wizard's Intelligence (INT) modifier. For example, the spell might be designed to activate only when a red-haired man approaches and a predetermined password has been uttered within the preceding 10 seconds.

Maintaining the spell in this suspended state necessitates a tribute of pure gold. The required amount is determined by the following formula.
