A powerful fire spell that burns opponents over time and prevents them from healing and regenerating
Evocation
Damage type: Fire
Action: Standard
Components: S
Duration: Instantaneous
Spell Lists: Arcane
Levels: 1,3,5,7,9,10
Area: Cone-shaped burst
A cone of searing flame shoots from your fingertips. Any creature caught within the fiery blast suffers immediate fire damage and continues to burn for a period of time. During this burn duration, the victim takes no damage, but its natural healing and regenerative abilities are significantly hindered.
The caster can control the range and area of effect when casting, up to the maximum allowed by their spell level. The spell's reach can be further modified using metamagic.
While Burning Hands is a potent offensive spell, it is not without its counters. Magical shields and barriers can potentially negate or reduce the spell's effects, providing a strong defense against its searing flames. Additionally, restorative magic, such as the Restoration spell, can negate or help alleviate the lingering burn effects and healing impediment.
Clever opponents may attempt to counter the spell's effects through self-cooling techniques. Water-based cooling spells can counteract the burning effect, but their efficacy depends on their power relative to the Burning Hands spell. To fully remove the negative effects, the cooling spell must be cast at a level no more than 2 levels lower than the Burning Hands spell. If the cooling spell is weaker, it still provides some relief, halving the burn duration.
The debuff of Burning Hands does not stack. Only the strongest debuff can be active on a creature at a time.
