Acid Splash is a basic elemental attack that conjures corrosive globules to assault your foes. This versatile spell not only deals damage but also temporarily diminishes the target's capacity to resist magical attacks, diseases, and poisons. The debilitating effect is brief, lasting only 1 round (equivalent to 3 ticks), but can be crucial in the heat of battle. This effect does not stack. As an elemental spell, Acid Splash is particularly effective against objects and non-magical equipment, with the Game Master determining the extent of damage inflicted upon such items and their subsequent usability. Acid Splash exemplifies the natural progression of a sorcerer's magical prowess. As the caster grows in power, they can learn more complex (higher-level) versions of the spell much quicker than mastering an entirely new incantation. This scaling mechanism serves to balance the might of wizards, as substantial game time must be invested in learning spells, forcing strategic choices in spell selection. As the spell's complexity increases, the caster gains the ability to expand the spell's area of effect and conjure multiple acid balls, enhancing both its destructive potential and tactical applications. Savvy defenders can mitigate the spell's debilitating effects. By employing a shield, donning full armor, and protecting one's lungs from the acid-filled air, it's possible to avoid the Fortitude Save debuff entirely. In cases where the acid is only inhaled, both the damage and the Fortitude debuff are reduced by half. Mastery of Acid Splash opens pathways to more advanced acid-based magic. Casters proficient in this spell find it easier to learn and cast other acid-themed spells, such as Elemental Wall (Acid), creating a cohesive magical repertoire. The caster can optionally create a puddle of acid at the location of the attack, which persists for 1 round per caster level. This adds an element of area denial to the spell, making it useful for controlling the battlefield. If Acid Splash hits a body of water of similar size to the spell's effect, it contaminates the water. Any creature swimming in the contaminated water takes half the spell's normal damage and suffers half the usual Fortitude debuff.
Only one Fortitude Debuff (the highest) may be active at a time on a creature.
